What do you think of someone with a slight lazy eye, or do you even notice?
I've got this question I have one...I took a high stick to my right eye while playing road hockey when I was 14, which breached all levels of my cornea and permanently scarred it. Due to the disparity of my left eye having 20/20 and my right now being 20/200, my right is off centre (but not completely turned, like this person): http://www.eyecareamerica.org/eyecare/conditions/strabismus/images/strabismus_1.jpg Essentially, my brain recognizes that I have one awesome eye, so screw the one that can't see at all...let's get one good picture instead of 1 blurred one if both were centered on the same target. I've included a pic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/48855575@N03/4475253267/ Anyways...since I've become self conscious off it, I've gone from being a pretty outgoing guy to isolating myself completely...I ignore my friends, because I think that everyone believes I'm a freak. The funny thing is, I don't even think most people notice it. I have awesome friends, and I'm intentionally pissing them away because I don't want to have to worry about what people may or may not think. The real recent downer, was I went to the Penny Arcade Expo in Boston this past weekend, and just didn't feel like starting any conversations with generally awesome people because of this very reason. I didn't seem to get any weird looks from people, but who knows. I'm slated to discuss surgery with an opthalmologist in two weeks, but I truly fear that if he tells me there is nothing that can be done, I'm going to head down a very bad road. I know that we ALL have things we're self-conscious about....weight, ears, hair, hell...I have an Egyptian friend who worries about his race...but it seems most people other than me can get over their opinions of what others think. I can't. Any opinions or advice? Thanks in advance.
And I found this way Hi there, I'm 15 years old and have had a lazy right eye since I was little. At first I was given glasses for it as it was thought that it was affecting my eyesight, but it wasn't, and it didn't help my eye, so they took them off me. I need glasses again now, but am frightened to wear them, because whenever I try on glasses they augment my lazy eye - they make it worse, and more obvious. The laziness of my eye varies daily, hourly, even minute-ly. It gets worse when I'm tired. Being a teenager, it really sucks. My friends tell me that they don't notice it, but I can FEEL it. It makes me feel ugly, and I can never look anyone in the eye for more than a few seconds. People think I'm an antisocial freak, but really it is just my eye. Is your eye permanently lazy? Mine isn't. It goes off and on. I can actually feel it when it goes lazy. It's been suggested that I have surgery, but I don't want it yet, as I'm young and there is a slim but still possible chance of my eye correcting itself. The only advice I can give to you is the advice I give myself. My lazy eye isn't my only flaw, and some people won't be able to accept it. But those people don't matter. You know you have friends and people who honestly love you when they see past your flaws, and see you as the person you are inside, and not judge you on what you have on the outside. When you think about it, all it is, is an eye that is slightly off position! As I said, the people who have a problem with such a small thing are knobheads. Looking at your picture, it is honestly not very noticable, and really should not affect what people think of you. There will be days where you want to tear you eye out due to stress, but what you have to remember is that it is a part of you now, and makes you unique. Good luck :)
